Skymeter wins main prize at coveted Intertraffic Innovation Awards
Skymeter Corporation, was one of six companies honored by the jury of the Intertraffic Innovation Awards with the traffic industry’s most sought-after prizes. Awards were presented in six separate categories: ITS/Traffic Management, Parking, Safety, Environment, Cooperative Systems, and Infrastructure.
The winner in the ‘ITS/Traffic Management’ category, Skymeter Corporation, was also recognised as the ‘Overall Winner’ for its Skymeter GPS-based financial-grade road use meter, designed for a variety of applications from road user charging and pay-as-you-drive insurance to parking.
Skymeter was named the winner of the Clean Tech category at the Canadian Innovation Exchange for innovation in the field of transportation. Winners were chosen by investors, high-end executives, industry peers and conference delegates from both Canada and the US.
Skymeter is working with the Winnipeg Parking Authority to set up the world's first satellite-based parking system, allowing drivers to simply park and walk away.

Skymeter's GPS receiver was independently tested by the California Department of Transportation against a leading commercial GPS. Even in dense urban areas where commercial GPS failed, Skymeter's GPS "perform[ed] very well".

Federal Commission's Support Gives High Hopes for Skymeter
Washington, D.C. – Amid nationwide calls to renew aging infrastructure, a U.S. commission report released today underscores the need for a nationwide pay-as-you-drive system – a system akin to one refined and tested worldwide by upstart tech firm Skymeter Corp.
MaRS clients were in the spotlight last week as Premier Dalton McGuinty announced equity investments in eight promising technology ventures.
Skymeter is one of eight that will each receive up to $500,000 from the $29 million Investment Accelerator Fund, a seed fund that is co-managed on behalf of the province by MaRS and the Ontario Centres of Excellence.
